Meet Odetta Keane
My parents came to this country to provide me and my siblings with opportunities unavailable in our country of origin. So, in the 20+ years since I earned my master’s degree at New York University, I’ve worked to help others learn more about who they are, challenge self-limiting narratives, and decide what they want their lives to be about…on their own terms.
I bring my full self into our therapeutic relationship. My style is equal parts unabashed-nerd and street-smart. I’m fortunate to have studied with experts whose gangbusters academic and theoretical acumen serve as the foundation for my practice. But at the end of the day, I’m a girl who grew up in Bed-Stuy and decided to tell the world to stop telling me who I am.
In my private practice, I specialize in supporting professional women of color as they navigate spaces (and people) who think we belong at the secretary’s desk. Having accepted an award from the White House and serving as an expert consultant to lawmakers in Albany, I hope to continue to make an impact on BIPOC women’s experiences at the policy level. But in the therapy (or Zoom) room, I vow to help you to untie harming knots in your self-story, to get clearer about who you want to be in the world, and then—with my steady (and sometimes “tough-loving”) support—to get on with the beautiful, badass business of being yourself.
Becoming a sturdy self takes a lot more work than reading affirming mantras or posting encouraging sticky notes to your bathroom mirror.
It takes the patience to look at your past experiences and the brave curiosity to explore the impact of those experiences on what you believe about yourself today.
Far too often, these lessons are rife with unjust, oppressive, or even abusive messages. I’m here to help you gently unknot self-critical or limiting self-narratives, so you can access the ease and freedom to write your own story.
